ADITYA ROY KAPOOR: An Underrated, Unfortunate, Underappreciated Treasure of Talent
Source: India Today
From Action Replay to
Fitoor, this actor has tried to show
the mettle of his acting abilities, but his acting prowess have always been
undermined due to the co-stars or a bad script or a bad direction. But in all these movies there is one thing
that has outshone, his talent and his passion, and that is Aditya Roy Kapoor.

Call it bad luck or whatever, but even with the backing of a
big production house or a big co-star, his films have mostly found a lukewarm
response among the audience. Aashiqui 2 was
a game-changer in his career, where finally this talented youngster finally got
a leading role and was recognized for his acting abilities, but the feeling was
short lived as he began to be type-cast.
A raging alcoholic and a failed career are some of the traits that
became associated with each and every role he endeavored in, but he always
tried to bring something different on the table. Here are a few of the underrated gems that
Aditya Roy Kapoor (ARK) has given to the industry in his short but effective
career till now:

When you have a former Miss World and one of the most bankable movie
stars as the lead pair, you expect fireworks at the box office and at the
screen. But like a fuss rocket, this Diwali release proved lustreless for the critics
and audience alike. This Akshay Kumar
and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer had a lousy script coupled with lousy
performances by the lead pair. The only
saving grace in the movie was the character of Bunty played by ARK. He
possessed the innocence, charm, wit, humor, excitement and nervousness that
his character demanded. However,
unfortunately it wasn’t enough to save this dead movie from a blink and miss
appearance at theaters.

Ye Jawaani
Hai Deewani:
Okay, the commercial and critical success of
the film might make this entry look a bit out of place, but when you see it
from the perspective of an ARK performance, you’ll find it justified. YJHD received almost unanimous appreciation
for the performance of its lead pair Ranbir-Deepika and the director Ayan
Mukerji. However, due to these high-power
co-stars, ARK’s performance was overshadowed and didn’t get the due it
deserved. Although, after the smashing
success of Aashiqui 2, the character
of Adi seemed like an extension of RJ but ARK breathed life into his
portrayal and made it believable, relatable and actually the most realistic
character in the movie (someone who actually suffered failure).
3.
Fitoor:
Okay, this is the most amazing and the most
underrated performance in Kapoor’s career, hands down. With acting prowess of a veteran like Tabu, popularity
of a co-star like Katrina Kaif and the script based on a best-selling novel Great Expectations, the movie had the
complete recipe of success, but fate had it otherwise. The movie went down as quickly as Uday Chopra’s
career. But his portrayal of Noor will forever be etched in the minds
of the audience that watched the movie.
The angst of the artist, his story of rags to riches, nothing of that
all could have been done better by any other actor, but eventually the curse on
ARK’s movies caught up and it bombed.
However, the movie is still an artistic masterpiece, and ARK, a
revelation.

The filmography of this talented actor is short
and sweet but his success story is yet to be written. Although, with an amazing line-up of movies
with Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sanya Malhotra with famous directors and
producers, it seems like his time has finally come. So, audiences, be prepared
to witness the rise of a new superstar.
Truly said . Hope he has a blockbuster in near future.
ReplyDeleteIndeed true, let's hope he gets amazing success in years to come.
ReplyDeleteTruly said, but it's just a game of patience.. Eagerly waiting for his next appearances in Kalank. Hope ARK will get the response and appreciation he deserves!
ReplyDeleteFinally someone said it! :)
ReplyDeleteTrue. Hope he gets recognition in coming future.
ReplyDeleteTalent, yes. I won't call him unlucky though as failures are always there in acting field. The fact that he still has opportunities to work in big productions and prove his mettle is because he figuratively owns a production house. Anyone else would have had to struggle endlessly or quit.
ReplyDeleteVery well written
ReplyDeleteNicely written, could have given a view on what kind scripts could suit him and help him getting a hit and also focused why a very strongly directed movie like ok jaanu was just average (directed by maniratnam )
ReplyDeleteIn another post surely
DeleteBeautifully written . Yes I am completely agree with u that ARK has all the talent and i am sure in near future he will get what he deserves.
ReplyDeleteYes. So, true. He deserves a hit very soon.
